Indianapolis Colts !

Jake Thompson
"Wild Bill's BBQ Pork"

As we walked away from their tailgate at the back of the Blue Crew's Rock Lot we could hear Jake say to the rest of his group, "okay guys, we got a shot at this!"

That's the kind of confidence that is the mark of a true Blacktop's Best Chef!

His pulled pork and homemade sauce with all the fixins was just the thing to make our celebrity judge say, Whooo-heee!

The Story
The Shots

Giddy-yup!

As we pulled into Indianapolis, we started scouring the Internet to find the best place to tailgate, and it only took one email to find the answer. We'd heard of the Code Blue Fanbulance, only one of the coolest tailgating vehicles in the NFL, and so we dropped them a line to ask them where to go.

"Come tailgate with us," Ryan said. "We park in the Blue Crew lot, and they're the best!"

And he was not kidding. This group of Colts fanatics have organized, mobilized, and secured their own parking lots near the stadium. They're even opening their own Colts bar next weekend!

In fact, they're so popluar that the lot was completely packed and Ryan couldn't find room for us after all. But he directed us to a cash lot nearby, where we had a great time with fans from all the surrounding lots.

We found amazing eats as we made our way through a sea of Colts blue, including some sweet football-shaped brownies and tasty biscuits and gravy.

There were vans and busses, trucks and RV's wrapped in graphics and bursting with fans. One magazine had taken on the daunting task of photographing every fan wearing the number 18 that day, which turned out to be half the population of the state of Indiana!

And that included Frankie, who insists he has not given up on his Packers, only added the Colts to his list of "favorites".

When Taste-off time arrived, we drew fans from three different lots to compete for the honor of Blacktop's Best.

Jake came down from the Rock lot with a crowd, and proudly showed off his culinary array to the competition.

Evey Brown made the trip from the Rock lot, too, with her husband Tony and spirit to spare! Their "Hillbilly Chili" took 2nd place, and they took home a Keg Roaster.

Randy Fite won a Turkey Cannon for his "Chicken Addai For" (dipped in the tastiest dill sauce), and Debbie Keele got a Kitchen Tool Set for her mouth-watering "Salsa Burgers".

In fact, the food was so good this week, the judges (Sergeant Colt and Jay) had to award TWO Honorable Mentions to entries that were just too tasty to pass over.

John Shrum and Tommy Kelly won for their "16 Way Beans" and Jacque Bush took home honors (and the hearts of the judges) for her amazing "Colts Power Punch"!

It was a tough call in an excellent competition, so just like the game, it came down to the last minute.

Final call: Great town, great people.

Great tailgaters!

SuperFan !

We were honored to have Hall of Fame SuperFan Sergeant Colt come down to our lot to be the official Celebrity Judge for our Tailgating Taste-off. An inductee in the NFL's Hall of Fans at Canton, Sgt. Colt (aka Danny Dillman) also designed Team Blacktop's trading cards this season to raise money for the Professional Football Ultimate Fan Association. Thanks, Danny!

Photo of the Week!

It took all of 30 seconds in the lot for die-hard Colts fan Justin (who's hair on the back of his shaved head is left in the shape of a horseshoe) to brand Jay with a nickname: Maverick. (Apparently he thought those shades were pretty "Top Gun.")

But by the end of the day, the two had bonded in their baldness, so much so that they swapped jerseys for this improbable pic!
