Washington Redskins!

Rick Losa
Stuffed Seahawk

In a victory sweet with irony, special guest judge "Captain Seahawk" Jerry Martinez awarded the honor of Blacktop's Best to Redskins fan Rick Losa for his savory "Stuffed Seahawk" recipe.

The Stuffed Seahawk was just one of the items on the menu at his camp (which included a shot Rick calls a Snakebite), where he cooks for a huge crowd outside a converted school bus.

Maybe it's the Hawaiian in him. When he cooks, he cooks big. "When most people eat, they eat until they are full," he says. "When Hawaiians eat, we eat until we are sleepy!"

We're sure he'll put his new Explorer Grill to good use. "We need a new grill. We just killed one of ours last week!"

The Story
The Shots

Diplomacy reigns in D.C.

Here in our nations capitol, it was a day to put aside partisanship and embrace the true spirit of America! When the Seahawks took on the Redskins today in a battle that pitted Washington against Washington, West versus East, tailgaters proved that it is possible to look past our differences and agree on what is really important... great food!

Though it pained him to do so, traveling Seahawks superfan Jerry Martinez, also known as Captain Seahawk, had to admit that the winning entry, Stuffed Seahawk (freshly caught and imported from Seattle, we are told!) was unbeatable. Rick served this recipe (a grilled variation on Chicken Cordon Blue) and several others for the whole crew with the 12th Man bus.

Coming in a close second and third (for their pulled pork and rubbed ribs!) were Mike Zdobysz and Chris Irwin, two of the three guys cooking for the crew with the Bohemian Party Vessel. They took home a Lewis & Clark edition Dutch Oven from Camp Chef. We can't wait to see what they'll cook up in that!

These two groups are used to the competion. They've been tailgating side-by-side for years, and have held their own cookoffs before.

According to the stadium parking staff, they are both fixtures in the RV lot.

Over in the car lot, the fans from Extremeskins.com were fixing up their own "fan"tastic food, including spicy sausages, pork skewers, BBQ pork sandwiches, and even a Dunkleweizen (home brewed beer)!

At the end of the day, Jay joined Jerry inside the stadium to help him cheer on the Hawks, but instead watched the Redskins continue Team Blacktop's incredible winning streak!

With four pro games and two college games under our belts, here's where we stand:

San Francisco 49ers: WIN!
WSU Cougars: WIN!
Seattle Seahawks: WIN!
Minnesota Vikings: WIN!
Maryland Terapins: WIN!
Washington Redskins: WIN!

If only our Fantasy Football Team was doing as well!

(We think the Las Vegas oddsmakers are starting to take notice!)

So Rams fans, go ahead. We'll be in St. Louis next Sunday with our "lucky" Tailgating Tour. You can start planning your victory party now. (Sorry Hawks!

Photo of the Week !

Some of the tailgaters at the Redskins game we had already met at a tailgate party on Saturday, at University of Maryland's Homecoming game.

(We think these guys look for any excuse to tailgate!)

The biggest tailgate party we've ever seen, it was hosted by two local firehouses. The 9th annual bash (which we are told is award-winning, and has been featured on ESPN) boasted 250 pounds of slow-roasted pulled pork, 15 fried turkeys and 3200 jello shooters.

But the picture that wins our Photo of the Week we took of one of the trucks in their parking lot.

By mid-afternoon, it was completely overflowing with empty beer cans!
